How to calculate square footage

Square footage is calculated differently depending on the shape. For a rectangle: length × width. For a triangle: (base × height) ÷ 2. For a circle: π × radius². For an L-shape: divide into two rectangles and add their areas. For a regular polygon: (perimeter × apothem) ÷ 2.

Knowing the square footage of a space is essential for flooring, painting, tiling, HVAC sizing, real estate listings, and material estimation. Always measure in the same unit and convert at the end.
